Unruly Passenger Incidents Sky Rocket as Summer Travel Starts

May 28, 2021 — On Monday, the FAA announced civil penalties against five airline passengers for allegedly interfering with and, in two cases, assaulting Flight Attendants who instructed them to obey cabin crew instructions and various federal regulations. Over the weekend a Southwest Flight Attendant was assaulted and lost two teeth. We've never before seen aggression and violence on our planes like we have in the past five months.

9th Circuit Court Upholds Washington State Sick Leave Law For Airline Workers

May 28, 2021 — Huge news this week in our fight to ensure Flight Attendants have access to state sick leave laws!  The Ninth Circuit gave Washington state the green light to apply its state sick leave law to airline employees, backing a trial court's decision to toss a challenge from the airline industry. In 2018, AFA intervened in a lawsuit filed by Airlines for America, the industry's trade group, that attempted to block airline workers' access to the sick leave law. AFA argued the case and won:

May 27, 2021 — We have reached an historic pre-hire agreement for U.S.-based Flight Attendant jobs at the new low-cost, long-haul start up airline, Norse Atlantic Airways! The airline expects to create a minimum of 700 Flight Attendant jobs in the U.S. and agreed to union neutrality with joint application for certification by the National Mediation Board once the Flight Attendants demonstrate majority interest in representation with AFA. 

May 27, 2021 — This month, Stan Kiino, United AFA Council 11 SFO and board member of the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA), wrote a powerful letter to fellow Flight Attendants and union members for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
