CHICAGO (November 15, 2016) — The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) has for years worked to limit the number and size of carry-on bags in an effort to reduce risks of injury and conflict onboard the aircraft. United Airlines' announcement of a new “Basic Economy” that includes a requirement for passengers to check luggage will likely reduce carry on baggage and improve safety for crew and passengers.

(September 30, 2016) — The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) today praised the introduction legislation to fight flight attendant fatigue with 10 hours minimum rest, led by U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Ed Markey (D-MA), Jean Shaheen (D-NH), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), and Maria Cantwell (D-WA). This bill will improve aviation safety for crew and passengers.

Washington, D.C. (September 29, 2016) — The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) Board of Directors endorses the election of Secretary Hillary Clinton as the next President of the United States. AFA said in a statement:

(September 15, 2016) — Omni Air International Flight Attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO (AFA), reached a tentative agreement for a first contract today with the assistance of the National Mediation Board. The details of the agreement will be released first to the over 300 Omni Flight Attendants.

Washington, DC (September 11, 2016) – The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) issued the following statement on the 15th year since the September 11, 2001 attacks changed the country and the Flight Attendant profession forever:

“On September 11, 2001, twenty-five Flight Attendants took action as first responders in a war we didn’t know we were fighting.  These heroes were among the first to relay the intelligence that alerted our country and our flying partners in flight 93, who in turn sacrificed their own lives to save countless others on the ground.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 9, 2016) — On the 15th remembrance of the September 11th terrorist attacks, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution Thursday, led by Senators Markey (D-MA), Warren (D-MA), Casey (D-PA), Gillibrand (D-NY), and Booker (D-NJ), committing to never forget aviation’s first responder’s heroic actions. The crewmembers of United Flight 175, American Flight 11, American Flight 77, and United Flight 93 acted as first responders, providing the first information about the unfolding attacks and selflessly protecting the United States and the lives of countless others.

CHICAGO (August 12, 2016) — The flight attendants at United Airlines, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), today ratified a contract covering 25,000 flight attendants.  Over 90 percent participated in the vote with 53 percent voting to ratify the agreement. This agreement was reached on June 24, 2016, with assistance from the National Mediation Board.
