Hurricane Lane: Flight Attendants Stay Safe

August 22, 2018 — Tropical storm- and hurricane-force winds may reach Hawaii's Big Island (the largest and easternmost island) by Wednesday night, followed by a possible 20 inches of rain, flooding, storm surge, and, possibly, landslides. “Now is the time to complete all preparations to protect life and property,” the National Weather Service warns.

August 11, 2018 at 9:00am ET — AFA critical response team mobilized last night due to an incident involving a Horizon Q400 and an airline employee. AFA Horizon and AFA Alaska officers are responding onsite at SeaTac now. 

9/11 Memorial & Museum Recognizes Flight Crewmembers During National Aviation Week

August 9, 2018 — The 9/11 Memorial & Museum will mark National Aviation Week (August 13-19, 2018) by providing free Museum access to crewmembers both active and retired. Throughout the week, the Museum will feature flight crew-themed auditorium programming to highlight this chapter in aviation history and share these stories with Museum visitors.

One of the scariest examples of an overheated airliner came in June 2017, when a woman and her beet-red, 4-month-old baby needed ice bags and then an ambulance because of the heat of a flight in Denver. The child revived with treatment.

Maintaining Federal Security Screening at All Airports

August 2, 2018 — CNN is reporting that the TSA is considering eliminating passenger screening at more than 150 small and medium-sized airports, serving aircraft with 60 seats or fewer, across the US. According to the report, the proposal states "passengers and luggage arriving from these smaller airports would be screened when they arrive at major airports for connecting flights instead of the current practice of joining the already screened population at the larger airport."
