AFA Air Safety, Heath, and Security Director Chris Witkowski was reappointed to serve on the Aviation Security Advisory Committee (ASAC). The ASAC is required by law and was established to enhance TSA’s security posture through consultation with key partners on aviation security matters, including on the development, refinement, and implementation of policies, programs, rulemaking and security directives pertaining to aviation security.

May 25, 2018 — Yesterday, Congresswomen Lois Frankel (D-FL-21) and Barbara Comstock (R-VA-10) sent a letter to 30 airline executives requesting they take immediate action to address sexual harassment in the industry among flight attendants and passengers. Members are asking these industry leaders to publicly denounce sexual harassment, reinforce the role of flight attendants as safety professionals, and work with the Association of Flight Attendants to put in place policies to address this systemic issue.

In 1970, the AFL-CIO declared April 28th as Workers’ Memorial Day, remembering those who have died on the job and redoubling our efforts to maintain and promote safety at work. The great union organizer and activist Mother Jones gave us the rallying slogan for the day, “Mourn for the dead and fight like hell for the living.” This is our charge and we take it seriously in everything we do to improve our contracts, organize the unorganized, and demand the safest regulations and standards for our jobs.
